Over the last few weeks we’ve been starting to make progress on our new distillery home. During an initial spring clean to wash away the cobwebs (literally) we've made some rather interesting discoveries - including whale bones and a vintage Hogwarts looking bank safe. Interestingly, the bones were actually in the safe - we have no idea why and not sure we want to know.
Part of our initial work has been giving some much needed love and attention to the roof - with many island downpours it’s vital that we keep the building dry while distilling Downpour gin. As a listed building any roofing tiles that we renovate must be replaced with Ballachulish Slate. With our roof related knowledge limited, Jonny put a shout out on Facebook to locate some of these special slates. We were blown away with all of the kind and helpful offers and suggestions and have now found the slates we need courtesy of the old Doctors House at Baleloch - and we’ll be giving them a very welcome home at our brand new distillery.
