In these early days of a new year it's always great to take a moment and reflect back on the year that has just been. 2024 was another huge one for us here at North Uist Distillery, and one that tipped us over from from a (not inconsiderable) period of planning into one of immense action. 

In 2024 we reached one of our biggest milestones yet, with the installation of one whole carbon neutral whisky distillery into our Hebridean home at Nunton Steadings. This wasn't a simple installation, working with a historical listed building that required a lot of careful tweaks to take it into its next chapter as as whisky distillery.

Eleven large pieces of custom designed and made distillery equipment were lowered in through the roof and 960m of pipework was carefully installed and commissioned. A whole lot of work went into ending the year with a fully functioning, sustainable, single malt, Hebridean whisky distillery, one ready to turn those 16 tonnes of heritage bere barley into new make spirit with which to fill the 350 casks we spent the year carefully collecting.
